Becca Cosmetics Beauty Event at Ulta Beauty in Dunwoody, GA

Yesterday, I stopped at @ultabeauty to grab a mattifying primer that will help minimize the appearance of oily skin. Of course no woman can ever go to the makeup store without coming out with more then she planned. I ended up finding out that Becca Cosmetics will be hosting a Highlighting & Contouring 101 Event. They will have a #live #DJ and catered food, and you get to experience a full face of #makeup and more! Virginia, the wonderful woman that suggested Becca's primer, and a few other products :), was also helpful enough to give me some skincare tips too! Make sure to ask for her when you go!

Does Our "Over Thinking" Cause Major Health Problems?

Over the weekend, my mother had to be taken to the emergency room for her blood pressure, which was 170/118, which is extremely high. Typically, my mother is a pretty healthy person. She is the one that encouraged me to stop eating meat, and to take my health more seriously, since I spend most of the day sitting while I work. For Christmas, she went to the extent to purchase a Nordictrack bicycle for us to both stay in better shape during the colder months. I'm painting this picture so you can begin to understand where I'm going with this.

On Saturday, she just felt something wasn't right, and decided to get her blood pressure checked at one of those setups you see at Walgreens or CVS. If it wasn't for her paying attention to that weird feeling, we don't know what would have happened.

After all the blood test, loss of sleep from waiting for hours to be seen and evaluated, the results turned out inconclusive. They couldn't find anything wrong with her. She took a pill that dropped her blood pressure down instantly, and was sent home.

As my mother and I talked about what could have caused it, we came to the conclusion there where 2 factors. One was stress from work and family members, the other was from consuming teas that had caffeine in it such as Black Chai tea, which is something she started drinking 2 weeks ago.

I wanted to share this so we as women will pay more attention to our health, and what we choose to think about. Even the most fit people who eat nothing but organic foods, and use gluten, paraben free or all natural body products, still suffer from illnesses. Why is that? My conclusion is OVER THINKING, which results in fear, stress, anxiety, heartache, stomach ailments, hair loss, weight gain, and so on.

From my personal experience, I can attest to this from my experience with a painful stomach issue I had back in 2009. I went to the extent of changing my diet, eating smaller meals, drinking aloe juice, and trying all these different things that never really solved the issue entirely, it just soothed it. It wasn't until the week in the beginning of 2010 that I quit my job, cut my hair, and ended a 2.5 year relationship, that all of a sudden my stomach pains went away immediately. I even lost 20lbs. two months later. This all goes to show you that even with the proper diets and exercise, you still need to work on you mind. The mind is a powerful thing, and if left to run rapid about our past, what others have done to us, and whatever else it can come up with to distract you, it will lead to major health problems.

Over the years, I've learned different ways to help maintain my stress levels, but most importantly, recognize the signs when it is starting to get out of control.

Here's a list of a few things that has helped me relieve stress over the years:
  • Reading spiritual books.
  • Going for a walk outside, if the weather permits.
  • Going to a spa like JeJu Sauna, which is really affordable, and a great way to detox the body.
  • Learning how to sit still to quiet all the over thinking, and breathe.
  • Quiet the thoughts toward others and myself.
  • Go on a yearly vacation.
  • Hang out with a friend.
  • Go to a part of town I've never been, or a coffee shop and read.
  • Volunteer or do something for someone I know.

What are you doing to relieve stress?

Goals give Passion Direction

If you think about it, goals help to give you more direction in anything you do. From something as simple as making a grocery list with what you intend to purchase, sticking to a budget, or buying a specific shoe color. Those are all simple examples of setting goals.

What would happen if we took that same simple principle, and applied it to our dreams? We would give them life.

From Casual to Dressy in 1 2 3...

Is it just me or does anyone else have an issue with what shoe to wear with a particular outfit? I know I suffer from this on a regular basis. At times, I actually carry the other pair with me, just in case I have the urge to change.

Hey...Why not? Life is too long to spend them wearing one pair of shoes!

For the Single Folks that feel sad being "alone" on Valentine's Day

Yesterday, I started my day off like any other Saturday, almost. I decided to do an over body scrub, massage my skin, from my face to my thighs, which felt totally awesome. I figured why wait for someone to massage you when you can do it yourself. It not only promotes circulation and better looking skin, but helps to loosen up toxins to flush them out – along with water of course. Pretty much, it was a pamper me day, which included some reading from "The Happiness Project" by Gretchen Rubin, that I picked up from Goodwill sometime last year.

This book pretty much shares how the author choose something each month of the year to focus on and change in her life to add more happiness to it.

What seemed like a normal Saturday of grocery shopping, turned into a creative moment with my son Aaron. I told him he could pick only one thing he truly wanted, so he choose to make red velvet cupcakes out of all things, with red icing to top it off, which really was 2 items. Lol. I have to say, it was great spending time with him baking; allowing him the freedom to read the directions, and do things the way he wanted. Even though it appeared messy to me, for him, it was just perfect. Eventually, I saw the bigger picture, which is not about me being selfish with my views, but the joy it brought him.

This made me think about how we need to enjoy ourselves no matter if we're single or not, and learn to stop nit picking every single detail of life. Find something different to do, regardless of how small, and make the best out of it. We had never made cupcakes before, and needless to say, red velvet out of all things. I have to say that this was a pleasurable experience, not to only take your mind off being single during this time, and doing something creative, but also learning to let go of all judgements.

The real truth is, we are not "alone", it is really just a matter of perspective. If you want someone to love you, be loving to others first. If you want someone to bring you flowers or chocolate, do it for someone else, including yourself. My conclusion after spending time with my son yesterday is, spend it with the people that are right in your reach, whether coworkers, parents, children, siblings or yourself. Stop waiting for this imaginary love to show up, and become what you desire now, right where you are.

Here's a quote that I found on Emily Ley's blog by "chance", which is exactly where I was reading yesterday.

Are you having conflict in your Relationship with others?

I love what Eckhart Tolle is saying here. He's simply saying that when we are in a relationship where there is more thinking with the mind versus communicating from a beautiful place of within, we allow our ego to get in the way to hurt each other, versus allowing love to guide us. My take on it lol...
